Environment without Nature
A short, dialogue-free documentary, exploring the relationship of urban and natural environment in Attica, Greece.
The position of nature within the city: a delimited space, decor, obstacle, oasis. The massacre of trees as hubris, the digital environment as a temporary refuge, flooding and destruction as nemesis. The return and continuity of nature, with or without humans.

Theodoros was born and raised in Athens, Greece. He got one BA in Economics and another one in Media & Communication. Currently he works in film production and distribution. His debut visual essay "Environment without Nature" was screened in 14 international film festivals so far, and now he just completed his second short film, "Days off". He is also interested in oral history and theater.
This is a student film, made with just a camera, a drone and archive footage.
The concept of “environment” is inherently anthropocentric. Humans in the center and everything around them constitutes the environment. In that sense, nature is merely a part of the environment, something separate and foreign to humans. The city is constructed based on this logic.
This perspective conflicts with my belief that humans are part of nature and our lives are intricately connected with it. We are getting more and more alienated from nature, and if we remain this way, we will not survive as a species. Nature, as well as the creatures in harmony with it, will continue to exist though, even without us.
The film may revolve around the city of Athens, Greece, but I believe that the treatment of nature and our bond with it, remains universal.
