Director Statement

I am honored to present El Jacho: Una Leyenda Puertorriqueña for your consideration. This horror short film, brought to life with the support of our Indiegogo backers, is not only a cinematic venture but a deeply personal one. As a Puerto Rican filmmaker, I have long been drawn to the folklore and oral histories that are part of our island's unique cultural fabric. With El Jacho, I sought to reimagine one of Puerto Rico’s iconic legends through the lens of horror, bringing the essence of our heritage to the screen in a way that both honors and redefines it.

In a genre that rarely explores Latino voices, El Jacho holds a distinct place. It premiered at New Orleans’ Screamfest, then went on to Lusca Fantastic Film Fest, where it was awarded Best VFX, Best Editing, Best Horror Short, and the Audience Award. The response from audiences and critics, especially on platforms like Letterboxd, has been overwhelming and humbling, underscoring the resonance of Puerto Rican horror with a global audience.

With El Jacho, I hope to inspire new possibilities in Latin American horror cinema, sharing with audiences an authentic portrayal of Puerto Rican culture that celebrates our stories and fears. I believe this film is a testament to the richness of Latino storytelling.

Thank you for considering El Jacho: Una Leyenda Puertorriqueña.

Sincerely,
Adrián Borges
