Writer Biography - Melanie Star Scot

I've been in love with the entertainment industry since I was about 8. At 14, I packed a backpack, loaded up my pony and left home, headed to Hollywood, intent on traveling the 3000 miles of back roads across the country alone! I didn’t get far. Thankfully, my dad found me and calmly talked me into coming home.

After 20 yrs in corporate America, I worked for free on over 20 film sets in order to learn the business from the ground up. In 2012, I was given the opportunity to direct and produce my first film, which was later purchased by ShortsTV, won a Telly award and an award for Best Actor at the Young Artists Awards in Hollywood. I've since written, produced & directed 3 more, all well-received.

I love writing action/dramas and my focus are stories that have the potential for wide commercial success by appealing to a broad demographic. I'm especially passionate about telling stories of strong, dynamic women, especially those over 40. My goal is that my writing touches the heart of a broad audience, tells good stories and creates good work for actors of every age. With its diverse cast of characters, I think you'll see that clearly in Eden Falls.

Writer Statement

While trying to decide what I wanted to write about next, our country was experiencing dark and tumultuous times. Over and over I kept hearing the words in my mind "What about the light workers? What about the people who are doing GOOD?" Like Mr Fred Rogers said when asked about tragic times: "My mother taught me to always look for the people who are helping". Eden Falls is intended to be THAT - a place where people can change the channel and be transported into a tiny, charming mountain town full of entertaining characters, surrounded by a vast green natural wonderland, and see and experience HOPE. Eden Falls is a balanced mix of the action and grit of JUSTIFIED and the sweet heart-grabs of VIRGIN RIVER - a place that will show that, while bad things sometimes happen and good doesn't always triumph over evil, the world is still full of good people, working hard to help one another and striving to do the right thing.
