Victor Del Rio is a Puerto Rican and Ukrainian American actor and filmmaker. He earned his Bachelors Degree in Theater from The Mason Gross School of Arts at Rutgers University - New Brunswick and received his M.F.A in Acting from The Actor's Studio at Pace University. Victor is bi-coastal but works primarily out of New York City and has been seen in numerous films such as "Ed", which he wrote, directed, produced and starred in, "The Martyr of Gowanus", "Precognito" and most recently the upcoming horror feature film "Twisted" playing opposite Djimon Hounsou, Lauren LaVera and directed by Darren Lynn Bousman.
The short film "Ed" is his directorial debut.
We are in a moment of time where the proliferation and accessibility of pornography is more apparent than ever. In this post-quarantine world, pornography has transformed from the behind the scene desktop searches of the early 2000's, to instantaneous access of the most extreme sexual images imaginable at any moment by simply reaching into your pocket. That level of accessibility to anything, let alone pornography, can prove to be costly if taken too far.
“Ed” is a story that deals with the loss of intimacy between friends and lovers, the pressures of modern day masculinity and in a broader scope, an examination of the society we currently live in.
With access to endless content leading the charge of our attention, novelty and the need for continuous stimulation is creating a world where we see way more, but feel way less.
What happens when the overexposure to an external stimulus is diluting our feelings towards personal relationships? Why all the sudden is the need for what we see online overpowering the appreciation for what we have in real life?
These are societal questions unique to this time in human history and will only continue to grow with the current generation.
My goal for this specific story is to provide a cautionary tale for the emerging generations who will be impacted most and give a voice to anyone in grips of this compulsion or others like it. I hope that through exposing this story through film we can begin the conversation about this emerging issue and break the shameful stigma around it.
