Thoughts on the concept of freedom have become part of our lives for us as women from Turkey. Does man achieve freedom when he lives in a free environment or when he is physically free? Are we free? If not, who is limiting our freedom or what?
Freedom cannot be viewed independently of the past and the socio-cultural environment. At the same time, small, actually friendly appeals, such as "Please don't do that, don't talk like that, be careful.", reinforce fears and thus support systems that restrict freedom.
Have we not defended freedom? Have we left it to journalists and writers? Or do they just write their thoughts and we turn them into a hero or an enemy? Are we suddenly leaving them alone with unplanned fame and forcing them to fight for our freedom? Do they even want that?
All of these questions led us to write Defne's story.
