Director Biography - David "Callahan" Ruiz

Licenciado en Comunicación, Publicidad y RRPP, y también en Historia en la Universidad de Girona. Crítico de cine y articulista. Cortometrajista desde 2004 como guionista y director, un formato con el que ha cosechado numerosos reconocimientos. En 2013 crea la webserie de humor Scalleti; Girona connection , 2ª mejor webserie del año en el portal digital VER TELE, e incluida en el Top10 de los premios RETWITMAD a las mejores webseries del 2013, y finalista en el I FEW 2014, siendo nominada en las categorías de mejor comedia y mejor dirección.

Miembro fundador de la productora Factoría Corman y co-director del ‘Acocollona't, Setmana de cinema fantàstic i de terror de Girona’. En 2014 publica su primera novela, El Crit de les Ultracoses , finalista en el Premio de novela ciencia-ficción de la UPC y finalista en los Premios
Ictineu de novela de ciencia-ficción 2016. En 2019 estrena su primer largo, Sant Martí , slasher en clave de humor negro reconocido con una decena de galardones y más de medio centenar de selecciones internacionales. El film puede verse en la plataforma Planet Horror , unos de los canales de Movistar + . En el año 2023 estreno su segundo film, El sabater d’Ordis , un relato onírico, surrealista e intimista que adaptava Balada del sabater d’Ordis (Carles Fages de Climent), una de las obras clave de poesía catalana.

Graduate in Communication, Advertising and PR, and also in History at the University of Girona. He is a film critic and columnist. Short filmmaker since 2004 as screenwriter and director, a format with which he has garnered numerous recognitions. In 2013 he created the humor web series Scalleti; Girona connection, 2nd best webseries of the year on the VER TELE digital portal, and included in the Top10 of the RETWITMAD awards for the best web series of 2013, and finalist at I FEW 2014, being nominated in the categories of best comedy and best direction.

Founding member of the production company Factoría Corman and co-director of 'Acocollona't, Setmana of fantastic and horror cinema from Girona. In 2014 he published his first novel, El Crit de les Ultracoses, finalist in the UPC Science Fiction Novel Award and finalist in the
Ictineu of science-fiction novel 2016. In 2019 he released his first feature, Sant Martí, slasher in the key of black humor recognized with a dozen awards and more than fifty of international teams. The film can be seen on the Planet Horror platform, one of the Movistar + channels. In 2023 he released his second film, El sabater d'Ordis, a story dreamlike, surreal and intimate that adapted Ballad of the Sabater d'Ordis (Carles Fages de Climent), one of the key works of Catalan poetry.

Evil Sex (una herencia con mucha cola) es una comedia en clave de terror, dos géneros en uno a partir de los cuales el guionista y director del film, Callahan Ruiz , siempre se ha sentido cómodo ( La familia infernal , Sant Martí ). Ruiz nos traslada, aquí, al acto de lectura de un
testamento, aunque desde su vertiente cómica. Para ello se apoya en clásicos referenciales como Evil Dead o El exorcista , pero también en muchas otras ‘exploitation’ del subgénero. El resultado: una hilarante comedia de horror protagonizada por tres hermanos ( Javier Bódalo,
Ángel Amieva y Estíbaliz Barrosos ) que deberán ejecutar un exorcismo inesperado y exprés en mitad de la noche.
Aunque el cortometraje incluye recursos propios del género de terror, la mayor parte del peso narrativo recae en el diálogo y en el peso interpretativo de sus actores. A Bódalo ( La cena, 30 monedas ), Amieva y Barroso le acompañan Ignasi Tomàs, en el papel de padre mortuorio, y el también televisivo Josep Linuesa como su abogado y albacea. Joel Ros completa el hilarante elenco actoral dando vida a la entidad demoníaca en ciernes.

Evil Sex (a legacy with a long tail) is a comedy in the key of horror, two genres in one with which the screenwriter and director of the film, Callahan Ruiz, has always felt comfortable (La familia infernal, Sant Martí). Ruiz takes us, here, to the act of reading a
testament, although from its comic side. To do this, he relies on reference classics such as Evil Dead or The Exorcist, but also on many other 'exploitation' of the subgenre. The result: a hilarious horror comedy starring three brothers (Javier Bódalo,
Ángel Amieva and Estíbaliz Barroso) who must carry out an unexpected and express exorcism in the middle of the night.
Although the short film includes resources typical of the horror genre, most of the narrative weight falls on the dialogue and the interpretive weight of its actors. Bódalo (The Dinner, 30 coins), Amieva and Barroso are accompanied by Ignasi Tomàs, in the role of the mortuary father, and the also television actor Josep Linuesa as his lawyer and executor. Joel Ros completes the hilarious acting cast by giving life to the budding demonic entity.
