Ajit Mann, born in Southall, West London, is a film director whose path to success has been anything but smooth. Born with a passion for storytelling, Ajit always dreamed of making his mark in the film industry. However, his early career was marked by relentless challenges, including financial instability, being in and out of various jobs, and the devastating impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ajit’s struggles intensified when he faced the profound loss of his father, a pivotal moment that shook him to his core. The grief and uncertainty left him questioning his future in film, but also fueled a deep determination to honor his father’s memory by pursuing his dreams with renewed vigor.
In 2024, after years of setbacks, Ajit reached a turning point. He decided that enough was enough. Tired of waiting for opportunities that never seemed to come, he took matters into his own hands. Channeling all his experiences, both good and bad, he wrote, produced, and directed Confess, his very first independent film. Since then he has been a 1st AD on 2 projects and has now presenting his 2nd short film, 'Dukh' which is a short family drama which tackles topics within Punjabi households that most people are afraid to talk about.
Ajit Mann’s story is a testament to the power of determination and self-belief. Despite the odds, he emerged as a bold new voice in independent cinema, proving that sometimes, the most challenging paths lead to the most rewarding destinations.
I am absolutley pleased to share Dukh with everyone which has been a passion project for many years. I had always been hesitant on making a film that showcases the darker side of South Asian households, particulary Sikh Punjabi households, however, this was a story that I knew had to be told.
In total we spent 6 months in pre production, 4 days of production and then 4 months of editing and we have all worked incredibly hard to bring this project to life. This is a very personal tale as I belive some of the best stories come from reality and I hope you all like that film!
