Genesis began her artistic journey with photography, developing a keen eye for detail and composition. Her passion for visual storytelling soon led her to acting, which she pursued from 8th grade through 12th grade. During this time, her love for film began to take shape, and she explored the world of filmmaking. This newfound interest culminated in the creation of her first short film, “The Camera,” a project that was both a creative experiment and a learning experience. Remarkably, “The Camera” was shot on an old LG phone, demonstrating Genesis’s resourcefulness and determination to tell a story, even with limited tools.
After completing “The Camera,” Genesis shifted her focus to acting, dedicating time to perfecting her craft on stage. However, the call of filmmaking remained strong, and eventually, she returned to the director’s chair. This time, she brought together all her skills from photography and acting to create a more refined approach to filmmaking. Now working with an iPhone 8 Plus, Genesis has significantly upgraded her equipment, allowing her to capture higher-quality footage while maintaining the intimate, personal style that defines her work.
In her current projects, Genesis handles every aspect of production, from shooting her own headshots to directing and managing all the work in post-production. Her films reflect a deep understanding of both the technical and emotional aspects of storytelling, making her a multifaceted and dynamic force in the world of short films.
Dreams was inspired by a video I saw online that motivated me to try creating something similar on my own. I approached the project primarily as a visual experiment, focusing on atmosphere and imagery rather than beginning with a full script. After filming, I decided to add a short piece of dialogue to give the visuals a minimal narrative element. The results became a brief, atmospheric piece centered around the feeling of being inside a dream.
