Director Biography - Artur Matveev

Artur Matveev is a professional film director and airline pilot. He was born in Naberezhnye Chelny, Russia. At the age of 17, he moved to Saint Petersburg, where he successfully graduated from the Civil Aviation University and became a professional pilot. He worked for Aeroflot for 10 years, spending 5 of those as a Boeing 737 captain. In 2021, he graduated from the Alexander Mitta Film School and directed his first short film, "Déjà Vu." During his studies and subsequent work, he was mentored by famous Russian directors such as Sergey Mokritsky, Nikolay Lebedev, and Yuri Obukhov. Later, in 2022, he shot his second short film, "Bluff," with producer Andrey Lisyansky. He worked on a feature film dedicated to the centenary of Aeroflot, but due to the situation, he moved from Russia to Taiwan, where he continues his career as a pilot while also working on feature-length projects for an English-speaking audience. Before leaving, he and his team, including cinematographer Ruslan Bekrenev, with whom he has worked from the beginning, made a personal statement film "Dream," dedicated to those who, in pursuit of their dream, sometimes have to turn away from their path. The main message of this film is that, regardless of the circumstances, it is important to keep your dream alive and not let fear destroy it. Artur's films continue to be shown at film festivals around the world and win awards. Artur still pursues his dream of becoming a prominent director while maintaining his wings as a pilot.

Director Statement

«Dream» is a very personal film, created to support and inspire people who find themselves in the same situation as our hero Igor Kachelin. I also had such condition once, so I perfectly understand how it's like. Therefore, I want to say that even if your way seems thorny and wrong, don't stop and ... do not stop dreaming. And then everything you aspire to will definitely come true.
