Mzimasi Ndzombane is a working Cinematographer, but qualified Software Developer, who's always had a love for filmmaking. Throughout his high school and university time, he spent his free-time editing videos to his favorite songs using his favorite movies. After years of studying filmmaking, the ins and outs of it, he started his journey of becoming a cinematographer and landed an internship at one of his cities biggest production companies as a Cinematographer and Video Editor, through the personal work he had been doing.
I've always been a huge fan of European music. The style, the sounds, the texture! And I love the idea of hearing a song and allowing it to take over. Letting your mind run free. This was me with Der Eg Bor. I didn't understand a word of the song, and just listened to it. The more I did, I started constructing a story in my head. This is the video we have today. I had a synopsis, but didn't know how I could make it a reality. In December of 2018 I messaged Verdensrommet on instagram, telling them I love their music, and more specifically Der Eg Bor!
I let the flow of the song influence the story, I tried to let go. Try and make sense of the idea I had created in my head, on screen.
Once I got the translated lyrics, I was so stoked to see the how the lyrics and story was able to line up!
And I cannot be more grateful to everyone who helped me in the making of it, all the back and forths with my terrible script drafts, and Vetle Junker (band member) for even letting me do this!
