Deluded - The Making of 'Far From Nowhere'

Alec Bowman_Clarke (links) is a passionate, meticulous & authoritative writer/director & photographer based in Rothesay on the Scottish Isle of Bute.

He's a storyteller who works across creative disciplines including analog & digital film, photography & music. Having shot film & played music since he was hold enough to hold the tools, he brings a melodic sensibility to his projects — whether that’s shooting atmospheric music videos for cult rock stars or bringing a grimy indie edge to fashion brands’ portrait shoots.

As a filmmaker & photographer, Alec’s influences are wide-reaching. He’s inspired by the likes of Nolan, Guest, Garland, Wells (Charlotte), Gilligan, Gould, Van Hoytema, Saul Leiter, Tish Murtha, Vivian Maier, Sofia Coppola, Vuhlandes, Lynne Ramsey, Eli Vicks, Mike Gray, Stanley Kubrick, Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry, Nick Fancher, Ivan Weiss, Ally Green, the list goes on.

He’s an expert at executing one-point perspective, psychedelic lighting, creating depth for emotional portraits, painting with light & colour & creating romantic characters that stand out on screen; skills all evident when watching one of the artist’s own fast-growing portfolio of short films & music videos.

A self-shooter & owner-operator, Alec the storyteller has a deep equipment cupboard - he’s not obsessed with kit, although technical ability is an important part of making anything, and his extensive experience & willingness to experiment stands him in good stead. He is as at home working alone or directing a big crew.

For potential clients and brands, he’s a one-stop shop in photography and filmmaking, able to write, direct, shoot, edit & grade.
