Mary Gogoli
Mary was born in Athens, Greece, and pursued studies in Chemistry at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens before discovering her passion for filmmaking. Since then, she has contributed to a handful of short films as both cast and crew.
Curious about storytelling in all its forms, she has attended seminars in filmmaking, photography, animation, and subtitling, and she reviews, selects, and curates films as a festival volunteer. She is also drawn to pottery, aerial yoga, music, literature, and theatre.
She has worked as an event photographer, subtitler, and production coordinator, among others, and currently aims to continue learning from fellow filmmakers, evolving as an artist, and promoting intersectional cinema.
Petros Tserpelis
I was born in Athens, Greece on 10 November 1995 and I studied Greek Philology and Linguistics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. I have done short movies as a director, writer, actor and crew member, I have reviewed, selected and curated films as a festival volunteer, I have studied subtitling and improv theatre, and I have attended several cinema- and theatre-related seminars and workshops. Moreover, I write short- and feature-length scripts, stand-up comedy, short stories, film reviews and other short texts, I have participated in an open mic, I have published texts on webzines, and I work as a casting assistant, subtitler and freelance writer.
Furthermore, I have studied electric guitar, electric bass, musical ensembles, ear training, classical guitar, popular music theory and music technology, I play acoustic guitar and ukulele, I compose and arrange music, I write lyrics, I participate in concerts, I have released one single and one EP, and in the past I was producing and presenting music shows on web radios for eight years. Finally, I have worked, volunteered and attended seminars in several other fields.
The main idea for “Deeper” sprung from personal experiences with - and conversations about - what could be described as depersonalization. With this movie we want to convey what it's like to feel that you become distanced from yourself and the people around you, and how that sometimes serves as a reaction to stressful situations. Other themes include the struggles that often come with creative expression, as well as anxiety, phobias and generational trauma, in particular fear of abandonment as portrayed in the relationship between our protagonist and her mother and projected on her relationship with her oldest friend. Our goal was to tackle these themes with the gravitas they deserve but also to sprinkle them with a ray of hope.
