Director Biography - Anna Carvalho

Anna Carvalho is a multilingual, award-winning actress, director, producer, and writer with more than 60 film and television credits. Many of these projects have garnered awards or nominations and screened at major festivals around the world. She has also served on the juries /screener of some international film festivals and been invited as a guest panelist at events such as Cine Las Américas.

Driven by a lifelong passion for the arts, Anna has trained and worked in Portugal, the United States, England, Italy, and Spain. She earned her degree in Audiovisuals in 2002, followed by a master’s in Performing Arts in 2013. For her master’s thesis she co-wrote, produced, and starred in Death Cabaret, a play that toured Portugal for an entire year.

Beyond her screen work, Anna has produced television shows and commercials, directed multiple stage productions, and written numerous articles for Inside newspaper and the cultural blog D’Magia (theatre, music, and cinema).

Committed to diversity and inclusion, Anna not only lives these values but weaves them into every project she undertakes.

Director Statement

"Death is The Place on Earth" is a metaphorical short film centered around Immortal IVY, serving as an introspection into the inner demons of human beings. It delves into questions about our identity, exploring why humanity, despite its failures and shortcomings, remains a belief-worthy entity.

The immortal character, deeply enamored with humanity, mirrors my own reflection of the world. Viewing life beyond a singular dimension prompts a continual quest for answers regarding our existence and the philosophy of life.

Through my film, I aimed to share this introspective journey, inviting viewers to join me in contemplating the profound aspects of our existence.
