Dearly Departed
Set in the brittle elegance of Regency England, Dearly Departed follows Theodore Ashworth, a young Earl who has built his life on duty, and Oliver Bellingham, the charming wanderer he once loved and lost. In 1807, they meet aboard a northbound coastal vessel, where a shared cabin and too much sea air slip them from wary companionship into a secret, intoxicating romance that feels almost free. That brief freedom curdles in a salt-stained lane on the Isle of Skye, when a night of drink and a struggle in the dark leaves a young man dead. They part, carrying matching guilt and a pocket watch engraved with both their initials that refuses to let the past stay buried.
In 1813, Theodore is a husband, an heir, and the quiet center of a house straining under grief, gossip, and expectation. On the night of his thirtieth birthday ball, Oliver walks back through his doors. As Evelyn navigates a fragile pregnancy, Cedric’s health falters and the servants trade whispers, Theo and Oliver are pulled back toward each other. Their reunion draws the eye of someone who knows more than they should, tying the Ashworth estate to what happened on the coast. Across the season, that shared secret tightens around them until it demands a life in payment, and Theodore is left to decide what kind of man he will be now that the truth is no longer only his.
