William Pak is an aspiring animation director who is currently majoring in Film/Animation/Video at Rhode Island School of Design, set to graduate in 2022. Growing up in quiet Northern Virginia, Will had a homely but somewhat solitary childhood where his interest in drawing and cartoons provided a creative outlet. Now in his third year at RISD, he aims to integrate elements from his own childhood experiences and upbringing as a Korean-American into his work. Will is very interested in stories revolving around family dynamics and his works often feature idiosyncratic, sympathetic introverts who are usually either children or the elderly. His junior fall semester film “Dead Fish” is inspired by an experience from his youth and it demonstrates his interest in tragicomedies that juxtapose childlike innocence with more mature subject matter. Going forward, Will intends to further explore different genres and visual styles while still retaining consistent themes that reflect his personal experiences and identity.
