Daylight Shadows
The film is inspired by the Sahara Desert, imagined as a surreal environment inhabited by a blue whale. Both the blue whale and the Sahara Desert function as symbolic elements within the visual narrative. Together they reflect the current condition of the Earth and the growing destruction of natural ecosystems, suggesting a possible future in which natural habitats have been drastically altered.
In the film, the blue whale appears as the last remaining aquatic creature, symbolizing the fragile state of life on Earth. Instead of moving through water, the whale exists in air, emphasizing the disappearance of its natural environment. This transformed habitat becomes a metaphor for ecological imbalance and the gradual loss of biodiversity.
The desert landscape itself is intentionally depicted in a slightly unreal manner, as if two different worlds were overlapping. Elements of oceanic space and desert terrain merge into a dreamlike environment where the sky seems almost absent, dissolving into the horizon. This visual ambiguity reinforces the feeling that the natural order of the planet has been disrupted.
Another symbolic element in the video is a perfume bottle, which represents the way humanity consumes and often wastes the Earth’s resources. In contrast to the vast desert landscape and the solitary whale, the object suggests human presence and the impact of human activity on the environment.
Within this setting, a human figure—a man—interacts with the whale. Their encounter introduces a moment of reflection, symbolizing the relationship between humanity and the natural world. Through these surreal visual contrasts, the film invites viewers to consider the vulnerability of the planet’s ecosystems and the possible consequences of human actions in the future.
The male model seen in the film is a real person. The character of the model was created based on the author of the music film, Marek-Lars Kruusen.
The film draws clear inspiration from The Lion King in both its emotional themes and visual atmosphere. The relationship between the man and the whale mirrors, in some ways, the bond between young Simba and his father Mufasa—a connection built on guidance, trust, protection, and personal growth. Visually, the film embraces warm orange and golden tones, dramatic sunlight, and a sense of wonder that echoes the iconic look and emotional feeling of The Lion King. While the story itself is different, the film seeks to capture a similar sense of adventure, wisdom, and emotional connection, using light, color, and character relationships to create an atmosphere that feels both epic and deeply personal.
This film is my first audiovisual production created in this format, combining original music, cinematic storytelling, and modern digital production techniques. As a debut audiovisual production of this kind, the film represents an exploration of new creative possibilities, bringing together music, visual art, and cinematic imagination into a single artistic experience.
