Aliya Surti is a young filmmaker from Wisconsin and is currently attending Keele University in the United Kingdom.
She has been making short films for over a decade and is working on making a feature.
I returned home to the United States this past winter with the intention of making a film about my mother. This film was important for me because my parents are planning on moving out of my childhood home and I am graduating from University soon. We are all going on to new stages of our lives, but I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the past before moving forward.
This film explores the closeness and drifting away, the love and hate, and the understanding and resentment present in my relationship with my mother and her relationship with her mother.
Dawn is dedicated in loving memory of my grandparents, David and Dorothy Ashenbrenner.
