Danny Holguin is an award winning filmmaker and talented visual artist originally from Cartagena, Colombia. He has a special eye in storytelling for a positive cause. His main focus is filmmaking, however, he possesses strong natural skills for cartooning, writing, and photography.
Danny has been involved in the media industry since he graduated in 2004 with a Media Arts Degree from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. He has worked in well-known production companies in the USA and abroad. In 2013 he founded his production firm DHO Studios LLC with the vision of creating films closer to his heart.
In the same year, his feature documentary film “Destinos Interrumpidos” (Interrupted Destinies) won the coveted “Victor Nieto” Award at the “Cartagena, Colombia International Film Festival”, considered to be one of the most influential festivals in Latin America and the oldest. The film also won Best Foreign Documentary Award at the “Atlanta Docu Fest”, a very important film festival and platform, showcasing the best independent documentaries around the globe. In 2014, the film participated at the prestigious “Cannes International Film Festival” market place. Thanks to this, it was distributed worldwide by Caracol Televisión (Colombia), FilmOption International (Canada) and Olympusat Networks (USA) and it is currently available for rent or purchase via Amazon Prime Video.
His most recent documentary film, “La Boquilla, My Paradise”, has been awarded 4 times at the “EkoFilm” festival in Poland, “Festival internacional de cine de Oro Negro” in Mexico, The “Wide Screen Film and Music video festival” in Miami, Florida, and “Palm Bay Caribe Film Festival” in Palm Bay, Florida . This important project has been selected in 24 international film festivals so far and it is now available to the public, via Sofy TV from Switzerland. “Mani-Cura”, a co-directed project, got selected in 2018 at the “Cannes Film Festival” in France under the Short Film corner category and it is currently circulating various festivals. His feature documentary “The Virgin Whore” was selected as a finalist in the important NATPE audio visual market held yearly in Los Angeles, California.
Danny is an avid motivational guest speaker to the Film Studies students at his Alma Mater, The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and the Broward University. He also worked as a judge for the annual “Wide Screen Film and Music video festival” in 2017. Danny has been portrayed in important press, radio, TV shows, frequently on CNN. His projects have been selected in important film festivals around the globe. He is currently in the development stages for future projects ranging from shorts, features, and documentaries. For example “The Myth of Change”, a film portraying the real story of William Rodriguez Abadia, one of the ex-leaders of the infamous Cali cartel in Colombia.
