Dances with Shadows

Patrick Butcher, a smooth-talking conman deported from the U.S to his native Barbados, is expecting a quiet restart. Instead, he reunites with his formidable grandmother Auriel, who reveals a startling truth - the ability to see and communicate with the dead through an ancient ritual known as shadow dancing runs in their bloodline.
When Auriel dies suddenly, Patrick inherits the gift and is drawn into visions of the final moments of the violently deceased. As he navigates his new psychic identity, Patrick’s readings bring him money, followers and dangerous entanglements. But his visions also pull him toward darker mysteries: multiple murders, buried secrets and the unresolved spirits that refuse to rest. Torn between seeing the gift as a blessing or a hustle, Patrick must decide whether he will use his abilities for justice, self-gain, or both — knowing the shadows always demand the truth.

Writer Biography - Kevin Beckles

Kevin Beckles is a writer from the Caribbean island of Barbados. A former corporate professional, he took early retirement to devote more time to his family, while moonlighting as a writer whenever life allows.

A lifelong storyteller at heart, Kevin has quietly penned poems, short stories, and songs over the years, often tucking them away rather than sharing them with the world. His work gravitates toward reimagining global themes through a distinctly Barbadian lens, blending the local with the universal in ways that feel both familiar and fresh.

In August 2018, under the pen name Kayio Beckles, he published his debut novel, Games: A Crime in Barbados — a gripping tale that marked his first step into the public literary world.

With roots in the island’s rich culture and an eye on the broader human experience, Kevin continues to develop stories that bridge borders while staying grounded in Caribbean soil.
