Dad's New Roommate

In this new Sci-Fi Dramedy, we meet Joe Kowalski, a retired mechanic, Vietnam veteran, and widower. His three grown children and daughter-in-law have shown him over the years how to be more accepting of other people, to be a more open and loving man, and how to stay with the times both socially and technologically. Without his wife for so long, he decides it's time to not live alone anymore so he tells his family he's planning on finding a roommate online.

This naturally concerns them due to his age and they fear someone might come to the house and hurt him or otherwise take advantage, so they stage an intervention to talk him out of it. But when they are all there, their own personal prejudices and shortcomings are revealed and the situation starts to unravel pretty fast. And when they find out the reality of what their dad actually has going on, it forces them to re-examine what they truly feel as opposed to what they say they do.

Director Biography - Patrick F Devaney

Patrick started his film career in the opposite order than most do. As just about everyone in the industry began as an actor who one day dreams of directing scenes, he started as a director from day one and worked backwards into the acting world, slowly becoming comfortable and well-known for both.

After the first season of “Zombie Hunters: City of the Dead” was complete, attention was turned to the science-fantasy film “Aemorraghe”, an adaptation of a comic from Heavy Metal magazine.

Upon completion of Episode 9 and 10 of Zombie Hunters, and during the filming of Episode 11, Patrick went on to co-write and co-direct the short film “Slingspeare” (with Mark Boutros). A few months later, he wrote and directed the moody sci-fi noir film “Impervia”, which debuted in January of 2017, bringing home Best Sound, Best Costumes, Best Cinematography, and Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy many times over.

"Identity Check”, starring Lauren Cover, Marc Abbott, Matthew J. Kaplan, and Heather Drew, arrived next and played at over fifty festivals around the globe. The pandemic-produced (safely) "Visitation" series was then produced and released to the world during that trying time.

Patrick lives on the last street of NYC, with an ever-increasing hoarde of succulents.

Director Statement

"Dad's New Roommate" is not a statement about how most people are, or how society itself may or may not be. The film is about how this one family reacts to the situation, though the themes involved probably speak to many and will feel familiar to them in a broader sense. And I hope it's a fun ride.
