DJINK, UKRAINIAN FOREST

Djink' is a free adaptation of my short story 'Ukrainian Forest or Djink's Laughter', a romantic tale written and published in 2001 (https://www.calameo.com/books/004041895be903c98f615). The painting seen in the film, a portrait of a woman, is the work exhibited at L'Isle-Adam by painter Andrzej Malinowski, who won a Cesar for the poster for Luc Besson's film 'The Big Blue'. The shoot, a great moment of sport and friendship, took place at the Auvers-sur-Oise Cauldrons Quarry as well as in Paris, L'Isle-Adam and Maffliers, in the Castle and City Hall.

Partially amateur actors, a minimal budget, a scenario particularly permeable to the social tensions generated by ecological issues and foreign policy : the film adapted to the vagaries of real life with the ambition of translating it into fiction, of sublimating it. The story of a metamorphosis, so to speak. Cinema becomes reality and/or vice versa. Cinema as the autoclave of life. Cinema as a playground. Because all the same, between recreation, entertainment, stupefaction, exploitation of man by man, of the planet by man, of man by war on the one hand, and on the other hand a medium of anticipation in the primary sense (to know is to act), a medium of divination, of spiritualism, a true act of faith, a solid proof of love, an instrument of philosophical reflection, an introspective arsenal or even a factor of real progress through the transmission of knowledge and the elevation of the level of consciousness it enables, the possibilities of cinema are more than immense : in fact infinite, as is the case with any art form - and what can we say about science, which sometimes borders on art, unless it is art that can be practised like science ? However, from Andreï Tarkovski to Leni Riefenstahl, Cocteau, Besson and Dupontel, there comes a time when you (really) have to choose. Because if you don't, the censor decides and the audience suffers.

'Djink' est l'adaptation libre de ma nouvelle 'Ukrainian Forest ou le Rire de Djink', conte romantique écrit et publié en 2001 (https://www.calameo.com/books/004041895be903c98f615). Le tableau aperçu dans le film, un portrait de femme, est l'œuvre exposée à L'Isle-Adam du peintre Andrzej Malinowski, auteur césarisé de l'affiche du film 'Le Grand Bleu' réalisé par Luc Besson. Le tournage, grand moment de sport et d'amitié, eut lieu dans la Carrière des Chaudrons d'Auvers-sur-Oise ainsi qu'à Paris, L'Isle-Adam et Maffliers, au Château et à l'Hôtel-de-Ville.

Acteurs en partie amateurs, budget minimal, scénario particulièrement perméable aux tensions sociales générées par les problématiques écologiques et de politique extérieure : le film s'est adapté aux aléas du réel avec l'ambition de traduire celui-ci en fiction, de le sublimer. L'histoire d'une métamorphose, en quelque sorte. Du cinéma qui devient réalité et / ou inversement. Du cinéma comme autoclave de la vie. Du cinéma comme terrain de jeu. Parce que tout-de-même, entre récréation, divertissement, abrutissement, exploitation de l'homme par l'homme, de la planète par l'homme, de l'homme par la guerre d'une part, et par ailleurs média d'anticipation au sens premier (savoir est agir), support de divination, de spiritisme, véritable acte de foi, solide preuve d'amour, instrument de réflexion philosophique, arsenal introspectif ou encore facteur de réel progrès par la transmission du savoir et l'élévation du niveau de conscience qu'il permet, les possibilités du cinéma sont plus qu'immenses : en réalité infinies comme c'est le cas pour toute forme d'art- et que dire de la science qui parfois confine à'art à moins que ce ne soit l'art qui se puisse pratiquer comme la science. Cependant,d'Andreï Tarkovski à Leni Riefenstahl en passant par Cocteau, Besson et Dupontel, vient un moment où il faut (vraiment) choisir. Parce qu'à défaut, la censure tranche et le public saigne.
