DHARANI
“DHARANI” – MOVIE SYNOPSIS
The film Dharani portrays the story of an orphan, Vishwam who is deaf with little hearing
ability. His father died when he was young and his mother decided to commit suicide along
with her son, after struggling to meet the two ends. However, she finally took her own life by
jumping into a public village well leaving behind her son.
Even though, Vishwam was able to talk, the shock of watching his mother’s death dragged
him into a deaf-mute stage. An old man by name Narayanan was the only companion
whenever Vishwam faced big dilemmas. Vishwam was a squatter, and when the village
people decided to move him out from the property, only Narayanan was there to help him.
Vishwam does all the dirty work for the entire community and on return he gets nothing or
sums of peanut value.
As the story evolves, one day Vishwam’s hut got burned down by some goons and anti-social
elements. Having neither a proper place to sleep nor a place to go, Vishwam is taking shelter
under a banyan tree near the temple. He loves to play cricket but the kids in the village
doesn’t want him to play their games. Even though he likes kids, the kids doesn’t respond at
all. One day, when the kids ran out of players they decided to let him play. Vishwam
overjoyed by this, gave a welcome shot to that cricket ball thrown at him, which eventually
landed in the same old well which has become a dumping well rather than a well with water.
Vishwam had to convince the kids who were in such an agony. He decided to do the task of
taking the ball out from well all by himself. Without much further thought he went to the
well and try to take the ball out from the well. During this process, he slipped and fell into
the well.
Vishwam tried a lot to get out of the well, but in-vain. He finally realised that no one cares
about him and as such no one was looking for him at that time. Meanwhile, he realised the
beauty of nature where animals be it small or big that has shown this enormous love
towards him.
Thus this movie depicts the real nature of our existence, our own role in this planet earth –
that is to co-exist with other beings rather than destroying their habitats and destroying
them all at once for our existence.
