I am a Canadian writer/director with a passion for indie filmmaking. My favourite genre is drama/romance. Over the past 5 years, I've written dozens of scripts and managed to put 10 short films into production. I tend to write for myself, largely because I find that the films I wish the world was full of just aren't being produced anymore.
My classical influences include Roman Holiday, Casablanca, Sabrina, It Happened One Night and more of a similar vein. More semi-modern influences are In the Mood for Love, Pretty Woman, Knotting Hill, The Notebook, and When Harry Met Sally.
I dream of one day writing and directing an indie feature, but for the moment I am quite happy just doing short films. Some of my recent shorts have done well on the festival circuit, with Love FM and Amara's Smile both gaining a some nice showings at small to medium sized festivals. I never have the budget to attend but it feels very nice knowing people out there are in a theatre watching our films play on the big screen.
When not directing shorts, I work in the commercial/corporate video world which is also quite enjoyable for me as it gives me a chance to stay sharp in between narrative projects.
What I love most about indie film is that because the budget is tiny (at least on my projects so far) everyone on the project is there purely because they love film. There are no notes from studio people, no marketing clients hanging around, just pure craft on display for the sake of the art itself. It's really cool to be a part of.
Perhaps naively, I hope one day to bring this spirit to a feature project where we haven a bit of budget to make the story really shine.
Thanks kindly for checking out my work.
