DART is an international film festival specialized in documentaries on Contemporary Art taking place annually in Barcelona from 2017 (Spain) and Santiago and Concepción from 2019 (Chile).

The inscriptions to participate in DART are open for works that have been produced from January 1st 2020.

The festival has taken place in emblematic locations in Barcelona since 2017 (MACBA Museum, Foto Colectania Foundation and theatres such as Girona, Phenomena, Zumzeig among others) and in Santiago de Chile and Concepción since 2019 (Sala K, Matucana 100, Teatro Bio Bio, among others).

The festival’s program includes national and international productions that document the stories behind and beyond great figures of contemporary art, design, architecture, photography, and artistic movements from the first avant-garde movements to the present day.

1. Festival themes:

CONTEMPORARY ART: Documentaries about contemporary art histories, contemporary artists, visual art movements / trends / studies, about artistic projects, creative works by visual artists, from the avant-garde art movements explosion of the XX century to our present.

2. There will be four categories in competition:

Spanish Documentary, Foreign Documentary and Short Documentary (Spain) and Latin American Documentary (Chile).

3. General Conditions to postulate:

a. The main requirement is that all the documentaries submitted have to adapt to the thematic area of the festival: Contemporary Art.
b. The inscriptions to participate in DART are open for works produced from January 1st 2020.
c. All the films participating will be submitted in original version with English and spanish subtitles. If the Spanish subtitles are not provided, the festival will take care of its production.
d. The authors can submit as many works as they wish, if and when they adapt to the Rules and Regulations.
e. The authors allow their films to be selected either for the 6th edition of Dart Festival Spain (24 November 2022 - 11 December 2022) and/or Dart Festival Chile 2022 (8 November 2022 - 23 November 2022).

4. Inscription and presentation of the works:

March 30, 2022: Earlybird Deadline
May 30, 2022: Regular Deadline
June 20, 2022: Late Deadline
August 1, 2022: Extended Deadline
September 1, 2022: Committee decision

Dart Festival Spain: November 24 - December 11 2022
DART Festival Chile: November 8 - November 23 2022

5. Categories and awards:

a. DART Festival Spain:
- Best Spanish Documentary Prize
- Best Foreign Documentary Prize
- Best Short Documentary Award

b. DART Festival Chile:
- Best Latin American Non Fiction Film (over 30 minutes)

6. Inscription modalities:
Documentaries can only be submitted through FilmFreeway, although the festival organizers may propose other films for the program that have not necessarily passed through the platform.

7. Rules and Regulations acceptance - Transfer of rights:

The director, producer or distributor that register a documentary declares to be the owner, has acquired or does a legitimate use of the film contents and its authorial rights/copyright.
DART Festival is not responsible for any complaint from an authorial rights claim to the public projection of films with protected material.
The delivery of the DCP is not mandatory but recommended. In case the DCP is not available, the digital submission of the film will be accepted. DCP shipping costs will be borne by the submitter.
The submitter accepts to send the promotional material needed once the selection is confirmed.

If your film is selected, it cannot be withdrawn for any reason either from Dart Festival Spain or Chile.

All the works submitted, as well as some works not selected, might be selected for future activities, always previously communicating it to the author.
In case of admission, the Organization reserves the right to agree to a Spain/Barcelona premiere.
The promotional materials provided after the announcement of the selected will be used for communication and dissemination (hand program, web and other communication tools by DART).
Participating in this call for entries implies the full acceptance of these Rules and Regulations.

  • Presenting our documentary Street Heroines in Barcelona and Madrid as part of the DART Festival was an amazing experience and highlight to our festival run. Enrichetta and Marc are amazing festival directors who gave us a very warm welcome and helped promote our Spanish premiere. It was an honor to be selected amongst so many beautiful documentaries on art from around the world. Communication was on point. Theater audiences were great. Venues were top theaters.
