Wright is a 2022 candidate for a BS in Business Marketing, and Finance. She is the director, executive producer, and star of "Cutter", a directorial debut short about a desperate hairdresser and her maritime hair salon.
The internet age has made us think like sharks; if we aren’t moving forward we are dead in the water. Much like Cutter’s protagonist, Melody, ambition is both a superpower and an antagonist. But what is the cost of this ambition and how much are we willing to pay for success?
Melody creates problems for herself out of her own fear of underachievement. As she watches her peers seemingly move onwards and upwards whilst remaining static, she desperately seeks more, matched with the feeling that if she doesn’t accomplish something quick, she’ll be left behind.
First-time directors and producers like myself can relate, creating many of our own roadblocks out of similar anxieties. We want to let go of fear but sometimes our fear keeps us safe. It can immobilize some and embolden others. When the choice is presented to Melody, we see what she is willing to sacrifice to keep afloat.
