Fatima Hye is a Bangladeshi-American Muslim woman who grew up in Houston, Texas. She got her BA and MA from the University of Houston, majoring in Philosophy, minoring in Psychology and Media Production. She has completed several shorts and took her featurette “Animalium” to the Victoria, TX Independent Film Festival (currently available on Tubi, Plex, and AppleTV). Her first feature, “Abortifacient”, a psychological art horror “operatic cinema” was picked up for distribution by Summer Hill Entertainment through The Movie Agency and re-released as "Coming to Term" in on major platforms in North American and UK Territories. “The Players”, a local cooperative project is now streaming on Plex. Her art horror anthology “Cryptic Triptych” (soon to be released) received a Feature Film Production Grant from the Austin Film Society, and its trailer was featured on Dread Central. Finally, her psychological body horror feature “Ana & Mia” received a grant from the Houston Arts Alliance and was previewed at a special screening through the Houston Cinema Arts Society.
During covid, I took a detour and did 3 "pandemic projects" - an experimental short, a medium length cooperative film (currently on Plex) and a feature, "Cryptic Triptych", an art horror anthology based on a few pieces I had (Adoratum Technica, which was a Finalist for the Women in Film and Television Houston & Southwest Alternate Media Project virtual table read, The Sound of Her Voice, which a Producer asked if he could include in an anthology he was developing but never ended up happening, and Graybeard, loosely based on the fascinating case of Albert Fish). I used personal savings, the stimulus checks, and a modest grant from The Austin Film Society to hire excellent Texas cast and crew, including 3 different cinematographers to give each piece a distinctive style. We were also able to shoot in a historic house in Alvin. As you can see, this is a highly unique local project from start to finish!
