Experiencing Interruptions?

Crying Dolls

Emma English lives with a big family in the rural town of Bungendore, she finds she hasn’t been able to express herself in the way she wants to. But when inspiration sparks her to become herself, she decides to embrace her own individuality.

Emma reimagines herself as ‘Tiger Lily’ and decides to start a punk band with Elijah Ray called ‘Crying Dolls’. They start to write their own music together and then realise they need a third member to make their band sound whole.

The two host auditions, search amongst the public and put out flyers in search for their third member, but are unsuccessful. Throughout their search, Tiger Lily’s younger sister tries to join their band but Tiger Lily is adamant in not letting her join. The pressure to find a third member is on when a date is chosen for their first performance.

Throughout this process Tiger Lily and Elijah make a music video for their song, ‘Makeup Maketh the Man’ and write a song called ‘I Never Really Liked my Sister’ after Tiger Lily and her sister have a heated argument.

Tiger Lily is forced to go to a recital for her younger sister and quickly realises her sister was a brilliant musician all along. Their final member for their band is found and they perform at a concert.

Director Biography - Miah-Tya Nungheena Gowland

Working in the digital creative space has been a passion of mine since I was young. Through graphic design, film, motion graphics and photography, I have expressed personal stories and created content for businesses and myself. Screen arts is my most loved art form, as I thoroughly enjoy every element/process that goes into a film. From writing the script, to planning the pre-production, to directing/producing/working on the cinematography/lighting and audio of the actual filming process and finally the post-production. My work showcases themes and storylines that are important to me, such as showcasing the teenage life of kids that grew up in a rural Australian town and encouraging people to lessen their screen time, to instead enjoy the outside world. All the people I work with in a film process have similar passions to me and have also grown up in a rural town. This ensures authentic, realistic films that showcase original stories.
