Crux
Crux follows Harvey, a recovering addict who uses rock climbing to work through his ongoing struggle with mental health.
Life can be beautiful. Life can be messy. Add in the struggles of addiction and life can often become overwhelming.
As trauma, depression, heartbreak and declining mental health were woven into Harvey Wright’s internal fabric, so was rock climbing. Climbing gave him purpose and helped him to connect with nature, with others and with himself. Passion and healing followed but his mental health was to be massively tested by the global pandemic, with self-isolation forcing Harvey away from the climbing lifestyle.
Crux tells the story of Harvey’s recovery as he learns to love himself amidst the mountains of his life.

Casey Dubois:
After 20 years in the film industry as an actor, Casey discovered his love for being behind the camera telling the stories of his surroundings. He has travelled to multiple countries around the globe and through these experiences Casey realized he wanted to pursue his true passions: powerful storytelling through photography and filmmaking.
These days Casey lives in Squamish dedicating most of his time to the vertical life. From climbing and snowboarding, to tracking wildlife in harsh environments, he is making a career documenting life in wild places.
Zac Hoffman:
Zac’s passion for filmmaking was born in action sports. While travelling the world as a member of the Canadian National Mogul Ski Team, Zac spent his time in between training and competition honing his craft as a filmmaker, searching for stories within the world of skiing. This resulted in numerous web series and a feature documentary.
Today Zac is retired from sport and has committed his full attention to filmmaking. He is in his fourth year at Capilano University working towards a degree in Motion Picture Arts. This has given Zac the chance to round out his filmmaking skill set. Zac is constantly searching for opportunities to use filmmaking to tell stories in the world of sport.
Our aim for this film was to not only tell Harvey's story but to shine a light on mental health and promote vulnerability amongst everyone. Mental health is a more important conversation now than ever as the world works its way through this pandemic. This film is centred around rock-climbing, but the story is one that so many of us can relate to.
