Corruption on Earth

MOVIE CONTENT: The short film titled “Corruption on Earth” is about a fictional award ceremony for the “Best Regime in the World”. The prize is awarded to Iran. The excellent political and social achievements of the political leadership were praised in a laudatory speech. In an emotional acceptance speech, Iran's supreme political leader Ali Khamenei insists on going into detail about his regime's excellent achievements in person. The filmic recordings are mixed with real cell phone recordings of the current Iran protests and in this way combine reality and fiction, they are intended to leave the viewer in a state of emotional chaos.

Director Biography - Omid Mirnour

I am a German-Iranian filmmaker from Berlin working in different genres such as fictional series, documentaries, music videos or commercials.
I have always been interested in drawing attention to social issues and being a voice for unheard voices. These are the projects I am most passionate about. In my opinion, far too few filmmakers use their skills to draw attention to such issues.
My very first film project in my life was a series of interviews with homeless people from Berlin who told me about their life on the streets. There I taught myself how to film and edit and learned more about filmmaking video by video. Later, I concentrated only on directing and producing films. Filmmaking is my personal outlet to filter my emotions. I love to create my own worlds and tell my own stories.

Triggerwarning: The film includes violent archive footage and deals with sexual violence.
Many advised me not to do the film at all because it was too dangerous. Other people were willing to support me in my project, but didn't want to be mentioned in the credits for fear of hacking attacks by the Iranian cyber army or because they didn't want to take the chance to travel to Iran.
But I was not intimidated by that fear, because this is a tool that the Iranian government has been using for decades to control people. So if we take away the fear, we take away some of their power, and so hopefully the Iranian terrorist regime can be overthrown very soon.
Of course I am also sad that I can not enter Iran for the time being to visit my family living there. But I also have a hopeful feeling that I will soon be able to travel to a free Iran.
