Contra Dance Documentary

This documentary explores the community aspects of contra dancing. Contra dancing refers to a type of dance that combines elements of old fashioned English ballroom dancing with elements of swing dancing. It is sometimes described as New England folk dance. It can be found around the world, though they are especially popular in North America. It is a several partnered folk dance in which couples dance in two facing lines or a square. The parallel lines of dancers stand opposite -- or "contra to" -- their partners. A dancer and his or her partner form a couple. Contra dancers were asked a variety of questions about their experiences contra dancing: how it makes them feel and their story about their journey to dance. These interviews were conducted at The Almost Heaven Dance Weekend in May 2017.
