Greatwalker
Ben, an orphaned baseball phenom, lives on a Reservation with his grandpa and is unclear about his future. He sees baseball as a possible ticket to a better life off the reservation. On the way to a championship game, the team approaches the back of a billboard that says, "No leaving the rez." Ben's infuriated and lets his pitching do the talking as he throws a no-hitter against an all-white team to advance to the next tournament. At the game, Ben notices Marie, the daughter of a white racist Judge, whose wife left him for a Native American man. Dave, Ben's best friend, has a crush on Cindy, Marie's best friend. Ben meets up with Marie, Dave, and Cindy at a dance. After the dance, Ben talks Dave into going to Marie's house. Dave waits in the car while Ben talks to Marie. Dave loses his patience and decides to find Ben. He accidentally kicks over a bucket that crashes loudly in the backyard. The Judge hears the noise and searches outback. He finds the knocked-over back but doesn't see anyone. Marie and Ben agree to meet later. Marie gives him a note with a place and time, but Ben drops the message below her bedroom window. The Judge finds the letter and sends a Sheriff's patrol to watch Marie. Grandpa discovers that Ben is meeting a white girl and tries to persuade Ben to end it, or it could lead to trouble. Ben ignores his grandfather.
In the next tournament, Coach advises Ben that a pro scout will be present at the state tournament. Ben dominates his opponent until the last inning. On the ropes, Ben regroups, wins the game, and advances to the state tournament.
Marie and Ben meet and develop a strong bond. The Judge's flying monkeys give him notice. He confronts Marie, tells her to end it, and whips her with a belt. Marie tells Ben it's over, but he's unwilling. A car pulls up with two white boys. One of the attackers strikes Ben, but Ben knocks him out. The Sheriff arrives and arrests Ben for assault. In court, the Judge wants to sentence Ben to thirty days. Grandpa negotiates with the Judge, and they agree to a fine.
Ben and Marie drive to a secluded area, followed by a Sheriff's car. The two sheriffs beat Ben. Ben escapes, and a car chase ensues. Ben crashes his truck and lies unconscious next to the vehicle. The Sheriff makes it look like a drunk-driving accident. Ben recovers in a hospital, bruised but with no broken bones. Marie decides she can't live with her father anymore and goes to a cabin near a lake. Ben returns home and begins preparing for the state tournament. He receives a call from Marie. Ben wants to meet, but Marie knows how important the game is, and they agree to rendezvous after the tournament. Ben's team is eliminated, but a scout for the Yankees offers him a tryout. Marie supports Ben at the tryout. He impresses the scouts and is signed.
Marie, Ben, Cindy, and Dave meet at the cabin. The Judge and Sheriff find out and surprise them. A fight ensues between Ben and the Judge. The Sheriff turns on the Judge, handcuffs him, and escorts him out of the cabin. Ben and Marie leave for Florida for the instructional league, but before they go, Ben stops at the sign seen earlier and puts an "X" over "No" and under "leaving the rez." He writes, "Conquer the World."
