Henri Kay is a self-taught one-man band in the cinema world, handling everything from the camera to the boom mic to the lighting rig and beyond. Starting off as a music video director in 2019, Henri strives to become a recurring name in the industry under his brainchild, RUBYVIEW FILMS.
Having nothing but time during the COVID lockdown, Henri studied and applied as much of each aspect of filmmaking as possible into his craft, from the rudiments to the fundamentals, while simultaneously applying his learnings into what will hopefully be known as the beginning of a new wave in cinema history.
This wasn't supposed to be a film - I gave the cast a mission to create a small skit's worth of material with the original intention being for reel purposes only. However, that changed drastically after realizing this might just be the start of something bigger than intended.
My choice in style of filming was predominantly handheld because I wanted to make the audience feel they're also in the room as this story unfolds. The final touches were very minimum. I didn't want to make this short film look flashy or feel too overdone, so the music as well as editing had to be at a bare minimum with a big impact.
