Al Bruce is an upcoming director and filmmaker based out of Perth, Western Australia. After making a start in 2018 with short films and music videos, Al has discovered his passion for filmmaking and pursued it by studying at Murdoch University. While studying, Al has received commendations for his editing abilities, which led to winning the award for Best Documentary at the Murdoch showcase.
Now, Al has narrowed his passion into directing, with “Cold Feet” being the first of many short films that will be under his belt. Working as a first-time director, Al collaborated with other creatives and actors to create a short drama/thriller film.
The short film “Cold Feet” is a short, drama/thriller film about a cold-hearted killer about to take an easy kill on a target when he is interrupted by a not-so cold-hearted killer. The premise of the film is about exploring the interesting dynamic between two completely different killers. It was originally created for a university project as a Chekhov experiment to showcase the technique of subtext by only using six lines of dialogue.
The film is set in a contemporary period, and the production design of the set was utilised to reflect how the character of Oscar is living a miserable life, and to highlight that the killers are taking on a petty bounty. The film was shot by Lachlan Taylor on a BGH1 with a 12mm-60mm Leica lens and edited by Alexander Tatsiy, who both did a great job with their given roles.
