Cohousing

When a headstrong teen with dreams of the big city finds out that a developer wants to buy her neighborhood, she must figure out how to outsmart the neighborhood committee head to convince her wacky cohousing community to sell, in order to get the cash to finance her goals. In the midst of the 25th Anniversary of Willowbrook Cohousing, she teams up with her crotchety old neighbor and eccentric younger brother to ruin the festivities and sway the vote in her favor.

Director Biography - Leah Gouin

Leah is a filmmaker and University of Michigan alumnus, where she gained experience in directing, cinematography, writing, and editing. She’s completed a number of projects, including short films, promotional content, and both feature-length and episodical screenwriting.

As a 2025 graduate from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor with a Bachelor of Arts in Film, Television & Media and a sub-major in Screenwriting, Leah is thrilled to continue pursuing her passion for filmmaking and telling underrepresented stories in an entertainment industry that is constantly changing.

Director Statement

Cohousing is definitely the biggest film project I have ever taken on, and is the project that really solidified my passion for directing.

My amazingly talented friend, Robin, wrote this screenplay based on his own experience growing up in a cohousing community. It's a beautifully witty, bright, and meaningful story about community - something I think the world needs to focus a little more on lately.

Cohousing was the most challenging project I've ever taken on, but it was also the most fun and rewarding. It changed my life, and I'm not exaggerating! Our very small crew meant some long and difficult shooting days, but I'm so thankful to have a crew that was willing and ready to give their best every day on set.

I am also beyond proud to have worked with so many women and members of the queer community on this film, and thrilled to be contributing to some much needed changes in the industry.
