Coexist

Dela is a blind captain living on Hormuz Island in Southern Iran. While tensions between Iran and the USA are getting higher due to the geopolitical situation of the island, he practices an old culture of making bread that uses three unexpected elements from the island. He goes fishing every day with his unique ability to hear the sound of fish in the ocean, then he collects the island’s natural salt and its eating soil to make the bread.

Director Biography - Komeil Soheili

Komeil Soheili is a lecturer, documentary filmmaker, and producer. He collaborated on several international projects as a director, producer, cinematographer and researcher with a focus on social issues and the environment. Komeil has an MA degree in Cultural Studies and Media and done professional film courses in Indonesia and South Korea. He also has done several lectures in various universities, events and film schools.
He was also worked as a jury at the Busan Art Film Festival and a member of the selection team at the Asia Peace Film Festival. His works streamed in various platforms including National Geographic, BBC, VPRO, CCTV and nominated in festivals like Fajr, Cine-Verito, etc.

Director Statement

This documentary is about a blind captain living in Hormuz island, a place which is in the middle of tensions between Iran and the USA these days. However, we tried to explore how individuals try to live in coexist with nature, in the time that politicians act differently.
