Patrick Chemali is a first-time self-taught director. Coming from the world of technology & consulting, Patrick ventured into the industry initially as an actor in pursuit of a passion for performance arts. He later employed his writing skills as a blogger into the screenwriting process and contributed to the writing of a feature film. His directorial debut, Clotheslined, is a partly autobiographical story, anchored in real life events and moments from his life, growing up in war-torn Lebanon up until present day and its most recent challenges.
The inception of Clotheslined as an idea happened while I was hanging the washed clothes of my recently-deceased mother for one last time before giving them away to a charity. That moment of realization sparked a revelation that what we hang on the clothesline narrates the various events and happening in our life as a silent witness to the passage of time.
From that fateful moment, I built the story of Clotheslined backwards imagining various moments that could have taken place in any family’s life but mostly through a Lebanese family’s journey, all seen through the clothesline as the main narrator with actors as supporting characters to it.
