Director Biography - Bruny Derotzi

Bruny Derotzi is a non-binary person with a background in theater and currently a film student. They have been working in audiovisual since 2018 when they started making independent and experimental productions in various roles on the team, such as the experimental documentary Morada das Ixtranhas, where they were the Assistant Director. Closet Monster is their directorial debut.

Director Statement

"Closet Monster" is an experimental horror and fantasy film that plays with the imagery of the Closet Monster, a well-knownfigure from the fantasy universe, with the term "coming out of the closet" used by LGBTQIA+ people when they assume their sexuality/gender. The film is heavily inspired by the director's own journey in discovering their sexuality and gender, as well as their passion for horror films and how they identified with the figure of monsters.
