Clawface

A group of friends, a duo of quirky park rangers, some frisky hikers, and a pirate radio DJ unknowingly set off a series of bloody murders when they enter the woods of local legend, Clawface: a hulking madman who was left for dead after a bear attack in his youth. And in his woods, no one is above the claw!

Clawface is like something you might find at the local mom and pop video store in the early 80s alongside cult classics like Madman and The Burning. It’s a earnest, straight-faced homage to films of the era with practical effects, original pop songs, campfire stories, roller skates and there may even be a cleaning-up-the-house montage. It aims to evoke the era through filmmaking style, pacing, score, composition and lighting without obvious references or constant winks at the audience. Its focus is on being fun and having memorable characters and creative kills.

Most importantly though, it’s a body count film where you care about the bodies.

Director Biography - Mike Streeter

Mike Streeter is a director with a passion for making horror films. He is originally from Northern California, but has resided in Los Angeles for nearly 20 years. He graduated from The Los Angeles Film School with a focus in editing and directing in 2006.

Since 2015 he has worked at the post-production facility DigitalFilm Tree where he is the Night Operations Manager. He has worked on shows such as Ted Lasso, Dave, NCIS:LA and many more.

After making short films for over two decades, Clawface is his feature film debut. He invested his life savings and devoted over two years to making his dream a reality. With a crew of only six and an ensemble cast of 13, nearly all of which were working on their first feature, the passionate group made a remote cabin their home. Strangers became family, and the location a summer camp over the course of three weeks of production.

In addition to being a huge movie geek, he enjoys pop music, karaoke, basketball, board games, and pizza.

He and his wife/producing partner, Morgan, live in Newhall, CA with their two cats Sidney and Brewster.

Director Statement

With Clawface, I wanted to make something that was not just superficially reminiscent of 80s slashers, relying on film filters, synths, and leg warmers, but a movie that echoes the pace, tone, lighting, compositions, characters, and kills of classics from the era. In addition, my favorite part of the genre has always been the hangout moments between oblivious characters before getting knocked off, so there was a great deal of effort put into making likable and interesting characters.

At the end of the day, I think we made something that is both honest to its slasher inspirations while also retaining an original voice. And, most importantly, I think it's a lot of fun.
