Classic Short Film

Classic is a short film about a young woman’s journey as she comes to terms with her beloved uncle's terminal prognosis. Classic touches on the themes of family, love, loss, and finding a way to move on.

Jenn is a charismatic, creative, and energetic young artist. When her mother leaves at a young age, her upbringing is left to her father and her father’s older brother who never gets married or has kids of his own. Jenn’s Uncle Joe is grumpy, reclusive and only knows how to share his emotions when his beloved classic car is involved. Jenn looks up to her uncle and longs for his affection and approval, which doesn't come naturally.

At Uncle Joe's Living Funeral party, Jenn must now find a way to accept that her uncle won't be around much longer. It all culminates when Uncle Joe hands Jenn the keys to his classic, 1996 Porsche 911 confirming that this grumpy old man actually has an affection for his niece.

Sometimes the relationships that are a little rough around the edges are the most beautiful and relatable.

Classic is loosely based on my relationship with my uncle before he passed away of cancer in 2021 at just 65 years old. We both bonded over his 1996 Porsche 911, which he never let me drive until the last time I saw him before he passed. Much like Jenn, I was always unsure if he really "liked" me and I worked hard for his approval. He was the cool, successful uncle and I always wanted to be like him. When I got those keys, I felt a huge sense of love and belonging. And, that car brought us together.

I still have this beautiful, classic car today and I am happy to honor him with this story.
