Angie Loveday left her native country of Costa Rica to go study math at Seton Hall University in NJ, USA. Although that career path did not work out, it was there that she re-discovered a passion for film that she had left untapped since her elementary school days. Through student projects, she was the recipient two years in a row of the Japanese Digital Storytelling Project Award and had two of her student films "Do Not Press the Red Button" and "Three Truths" screened at the South Orange and Maplewood Film Festival in 2018 and 2019 respectively. She worked as an editing intern with Sundance-winning director Michael Rossato-Bennett for a year before setting out on creating her first web series, "Machivellian". After graduation, she returned to Costa Rica and was selected as a finalist for the Huawei Short Fest 2019 where she was challenged with shooting the script she was selected for, "Languages of Love", by using only the Huawei P30 Pro. She currently holds a Bachelor's in Film Production from Seton Hall University and is working towards her Master's in Fiction TV Screenwriting from the Instituto de Cine Madrid.
Christmas Lights came from a very personal place after suffering a loss shortly before Christmas time. The twinkling lights gave me some hope in the middle of the grief and I decided to work with those two topics together. Bringing in a lot of my own insecurities and dark thoughts I'd experienced in the past, what came out was ultimately speaking to the beauty of life, despite having visited some dark places before. I want the short film to spread some of that hope and positivity no matter the overwhelming feelings that people may be experiencing, especially during such a difficult time as the pandemic has been.
