Joel Ayuk, a distinguished figure in the Caribbean film and television industry, hails from Cameroon and has been a resident of Saint-Martin for over two decades. With a career spanning 16 years, he has excelled as a Producer, Director, and Manager of TV content. In 2016, Ayuk founded Cani TV, a local channel in Saint-Martin, and established the Saint-Martin International Film Festival (SIFF). His dedication to addressing social issues is exemplified by his first full-length feature film, "Chokehold." This impactful movie took three years to complete and focuses on the pervasive issue of domestic abuse. Ayuk not only directed and produced the film but also wrote the script, developing the screenplay during the pandemic lockdown. His multifaceted role as a filmmaker and advocate makes him a significant figure in promoting cinematic arts across the Caribbean and beyond.
In every film I undertake, my primary objective is unwavering: to strive for excellence from the very beginning. In the journey of filmmaking, compromises may inevitably arise, but with "Choke Hold," Joel Ayuk aims to navigate every step while maintaining a realistic expectation of achieving nothing less than excellence. I am thrilled to present the final product in its most excellent form, showcasing the incredible potential of the Caribbean. This film embodies our commitment to delivering exceptional storytelling and shedding light on important social issues.
