The School of Choctaw Language is hosting the inaugural Choctaw Nation Film Festival. Utilizing Choctaw Language scripts to recreate a video using creative elements of your choice. This event is open to student ages 14 to 18 and enrolled in high school in the state of Oklahoma.

Winners will receive a prize of:
• 1st place: Plaque, Work shop to produce extended film; working along side experts in the Video Production field and a District (Durant) fun pass to be used during working session day.
• District (Durant) pass will include lunch, arcade and bowling.
• 2nd place: Plaque and District (Durant) fun pass and gift certificate for 1 large Papa Johns’ pizza for each student.
• 3rd place: Plaque and one (1) movie pass to the District (Durant) per student.

How to enter:
• High School Students enrolled in Choctaw Language classes, who submit a video created by self by the entry dates February 1, 2024 to May 31, 2024.
• Submissions will be completed by the following method: online only via https://filmfreeway.com/ChoctawNationFilmFestival
• Winner will be announced on August 30, 2024, during the Royalty Pageant intermission.
• A person designated by the Choctaw Nation will announce the winner based on the judges reviewed rubric.
• Winners are limited to one placement per entry.
• The participating producer must complete the film/video during the allotted time of February 1, 2024 to May 31, 2024 and submitted by 11:59pm May 31, 2024.
• Winning team will receive a prize of:
• 1st place: Plaque, Work shop to produce extended film; working along side experts in the Video Production field and a District (Durant) fun pass to be used during working session day.
• District (Durant) pass will include lunch, arcade and bowling.
• 2nd place: Plaque and District (Durant) fun pass and gift certificate for 1 large Papa Johns’ pizza for each student.
• 3rd place: Plaque and one (1) movie pass to the District (Durant) per student.
• Winners will be contacted via announcement in the Amphitheater in Tvshka Homma.
• After winner selection and awards have been announced Choctaw Nation reserves the right to use videos on social media for future assets. Credit will be given to creator.

Festival Rules:
• Video/film will be based a selection of scripts provided by the Choctaw School of Language.
• The required Choctaw language must use exact words throughout the video/film.
• Video/film will be judged on the pronunciation and usage of the language.
• All creativity must take place during the official time period. Any work created outside this time period is prohibited. This includes, but not limited to:
• Casting
• Rehearsing
• Costume/Set Design
• Editing
• Sound Design
• The only work to begin prior to the open period is:
• Securing equipment
• Scouting locations
• B-roll
• Organizing and securing cast and crew
• Shot list
• The cast and crew must be volunteers. Monetary obligation is prohibited.
• Video cannot contain illegal substances, alcohol, vulgarities, or cussing.
• Cast must be in appropriate and modest dress.
• Camera type and number used is unlimited.
• Music and sound effects rights must be obtained legally.
• Final video/film must:
• be in between one and half (1.5) and five (5) minutes
• Have credits
• Pre-film required slates
• Five (5) seconds title card with:
• Team Name
• Video Title from provided script
• Date
• Five (5) seconds title card with:
• “This film was made for the 2024 Choctaw Nation Language Film Festival”
• Required Media formats
• Maximum file size is 2GB

General Rules:
1. Must be 14 years or older to participate;
2. Must be enrolled in one of the participating high schools served by Choctaw Nation;
3. All person(s) banned from Choctaw Nation properties are not eligible;
4. In the event a winner is not available to claim their award on the day of, it will be mailed to the winner.
5. The following individuals are prohibited from winning any promotional drawing: all associates involved in administering the awards, the Executive Directors of Education, Senior Executive Officers, Assistant Chief, all elected officials and banned guests of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma;
6. All applicable taxes relating to the winning of any of the prizes is the sole responsibility of the participant and/or parents of the winner. Participants with cumulative winnings over $600 for the year will receive a form 1099. Social security number is required, per IRS, for winnings equal or greater than $100 (refer to http://www.irs.gov./ on the IRS website);
7. Winners are responsible for any titles or licenses for any of the prizes. Winners will receive a W2G, when applicable, provided by the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (only if applicable);
8. By participating in this promotion, you understand, agree, and grant the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma the right to use any and all photos of yourself relating to the promotion including, but not limited to marketing and promotional purposes;
9. First place winners will be required to sign a Waiver and Release of Liability and Authorization prior to their participation with the Video Production Field.
10. Any participants submitting multiple entries will be disqualified. Only one entry per person is allowed. The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is not responsible for misidentified or falsified information regarding Tribal Membership;
11. Winners agree the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, its affiliated and related companies, directors, advertising agencies, and their employees have no liability in connection with acceptance or use of prize awarded herein;
12. The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma reserves the right to void any registration and/or change or modify this promotion without notice to the public;
13. Any dispute or situation not covered by the above rules will be resolved by The Choctaw Nation Division of Legal and Compliance in a manner deemed to be the fairest to all concerned, and the decision shall be final and binding on all participants.
14. The interpretation of the rules, eligibility, etc. is in the sole discretion of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and all decisions are final;
15. Prize(s) and entry into this promotion are non-transferable.
