Kyal Yi Lin Six is a filmmaker best know for her documentary 'The Open Sky', which was banned in Myanmar due to pressure from religious extremists. She is also Video Story Telling Trainer & Facilitator of most SEA & local vdo & tech camps.
She started her career as a reporter at Myanmar People Magazine in 2005, and has had more than ten years of experience working as a journalist for various media outlets in Myanmar.
Kyalyi studied filmmaking at Myanmar Motion Picture Organisation, British Council and Yangon Film School.
In 2014, she directed her first film "The Open Sky " ,the friendship between buddist and Muslim woman at religious conflict town.
Her second film, My Dear Tharamuu is also selected in Human Rights & Human Dignity Film Festival 2016.
In 2016, A Call in Need'' Minority Rights Film Screenings around Myanmar started by Kyal Yi & EngageMedia.
She is also a published novelist with five books under her belt. She still writing some articles about peace, women rights,child rights in magazines and newspapers.
Also a technology enthusiast, she has previously worked as a Web Content Manager for local telecom in Myanmar.
She is Communication and Outreach Coordinator at EngageMedia in 2015 to 2018. In EngageMedia, Kyalyi works to support communications and outreach video work in Myanmar through content curation, outreach and partnership building and event planing for various planning.
In 2017, Her third film, 'SHE' has won Gender Equality Awards in Human Rights & Human Dignity Film Festival. She got a young talented award by Al Azar Islam Education Network. She also got another extra award by Gender Equality Award.
In 2017 December, her GBV campaign film'Can you care?' also got over 40 K viewers on social media and she is more prominent as a Peace and Women Rights Director.
She is still producing "Say no hate speech campaign videos "and women rights videos.
Currently, she travelled around Myanmar and participated in Public Talk Shows as a Peace & Women Rights Speaker.
In 2018, She founded Digi Women Organization which aimed Digital Security for Minority women.
Her production is ”Open Sky Film Production " and Kyalyi & her team are still supporting content for local non profit sector.
