CHIPPY
Director’s Statement by R.D. Womack II

The issue of pet adoption has always been something very close to my heart. In particular, the misuse and mislabeling of aggressive dogs has come to the forefront of my attention, especially in the past few years. There are aggressive and dangerous dogs, but unfortunately the majority of dogs labeled “aggressive” are far from vicious, rabid animals. Many are caring and loving creatures that may have had a single bad incident. Its this “unseen” side of dog aggression that I wanted to highlight in “Chippy.”

Of course, the film is much more than a call to action in support of animal adoption. At its core, “Chippy” is the story of a single mother struggling to raise her daughter. Millions of mothers across the world meet day-to-day challenges head on, and “Chippy” takes a glimpse at a day in the life of one mother faced with an impossible decision. Unfortunately the dynamic between daughters and mothers has been largely ignored by the filmmaking community, which inspired me to push it to the forefront of my story.

“Chippy” is a short film filled with big emotion. We explore the relationships of a mother and daughter, of a girl and her dog, and a woman struggling to hold her fragmented family together. It’s a film made from the bottom of my heart, and it’s my highest hope that it has a lasting impression on the audience. If a single person considers pet adoption because of “Chippy” then I know I have succeeded as both an entertainer and a voice of change.
