Jan Doense studied International Law at the University of Amsterdam and started his career in film as a critic and a journalist. He was the founding director of the Imagine: Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival until 2008 and currently is the director of the International Film Festival Film by the Sea in Flushing, the Netherlands. In 2009 Jan founded House of Netherhorror, where he developed and produced various feature length film projects. He directed various shorts and was made a knight in the Order of Orange Nassau on the grounds of his contributions to the Dutch film sector. CHEESEHEAD BLUES RE-CUT is Jan’s first documentary.
"In 2009 I visited Clarksdale, Mississippi for the first time. In 2011 I shot the the first footage for what would eventually become CHEESEHEAD BLUES RE-CUT. Although I finished a commissioned version of my film in 2015, I was never fully satisfied with the result. So in 2019 I decided to do a new edit, resulting in CHEESEHEAD BLUES RE-CUT. Although Theo "Boogieman" Dasbach is my main character, CHEESEHEAD BLUES RE-CUT is also a portrait of Clarksdale, Mississippi: a town that has re-invented itself in order to keep the blues alive."
