Charli
Genre: Drama, Comedy, Crime
Logline: Rae, your typical college student, lives a double life as a rising rap artist named “Charli”. Rae constantly tries to keep her college and music world from colliding, as she desperately wants to maintain a normal life in her 20s.
SYNOPSIS: This dramedy series follows Rae Scott, a California Hills University student juggling a double life as a rising rap musician named Charli, an alter ego she adopted so she could maintain her identity while finishing school. After living a traumatic childhood being the daughter of famous musician “Lisa Scott”, Rae, now haunted with flashback memories of the stress fame brought to the Scott family, is hesitant to join the music industry. Episodes deal with both the ups and downs of responsibility and college life, while also focusing on the added complexities of her secret rap identity, and the changes fame inevitably brings. Keeping the two worlds of Charli and Rae separate constantly feels impossible. But with the help of close family and friends, Rae always seems to find a way.

The entertainment industry has made great strides in diversity but I feel there’s still a lack. Today we continue to use the term “black entertainment”. Even though it remains important for black culture to be seen, heard, and understood. I want to continue thinning the line of black & white entertainment and just create entertainment starring black actors. I believe this continues by showing ethnic individuals in unconventional ways. With my series I really hope to highlight young black college kids in a positive and interesting light merging the essence and culture of an HBCU with the tone of an upper middle to high class society. I also want to inspire teenagers and young adults by showing characters with drive and ambition for college success while also maintaining an influential glitz and glam social media presence . With the other 50% of Charli being in the music industry world of hip hop entertainment , I would also like to give new upcoming artist a platform to present their music. Adding this aspect of non fiction gives this series a sense of freshness and offers opportunities for talented musicians to be seen.
