Experiencing Interruptions?

CHANCHAL ENTERPRISES

In the small town of Bastar, where losing the head of the family feels like the end, Vimal Das, a college student, finds himself thrust into the role of his family’s savior after his father’s sudden
death. With a newly married elder brother who’s moved out due to household conflicts, two unmarried sisters, a younger brother who sees him as a father figure, and a mother trying to hold it all together, Vimal decides to take a stand and save his little world from crumbling. Armed with his modest tutoring savings and a rickety motorcycle that has seen better days, Vimal grabs an unexpected opportunity to supply lab equipment to a local college, offering a glimpse of stability for his family. With no experience, little time, and his best friend Sanjay by his side, Vimal dives in headfirst, using every last rupee he saved to take a leap of faith. What follows is a series of chaotic missteps, questionable shortcuts, and a stubborn belief in the power of his unreliable motorcycle. But with every mistake, Vimal is determined to turn his family’s fragile future into stability, pinning everything on what seems like the only ray of hope in an otherwise bleak situation, which is his new supply business, “The Chanchal Enterprises”. Chanchal Enterprises is a raw and deeply human tale of survival, where the stakes aren’t just about making ends meet but holding a family together. It’s the story of a young man who, in the face of chaos, builds his own kind of heroism, not with powers, but with persistence, attempting to save his little world, which is his family.

Director Biography - Arpit Das

Arpit Das is a filmmaker and editor from Bastar, Chhattisgarh, a place that continues to shape
how he sees the world and tells stories. He began editing in his early school days and later
found himself working in the regional industry, where he first discovered not just a knack for
filmmaking, but a quiet pull toward it. What started out as a way to express himself slowly
became the only thing that felt natural.
Over time, he moved beyond Bastar to explore storytelling more seriously, eventually graduating
from Annapurna College of Film and Media. Film school gave him the tools and the space to
sharpen his vision. It helped him turn instinct into craft.
His works have gone on to screen at several festivals, including the Dadasaheb Phalke
International Film Festival, and have won multiple competitions and recognitions along the way.
But more than the awards, what stays with him is the process
His years of editing music videos, short films, and visual projects taught him to trust feeling over
formula. He enjoys experimenting with form, and he’s often drawn to stories that sit with quiet
moments, with characters who feel a little unblended figures trying to make sense of the world in
their own way.
For Arpit, filmmaking is about being honest, chasing emotion, and finding meaning in the
smallest things.

Director Statement

This story is deeply personal. Set in my hometown of Bastar, Chanchal Enterprises is inspired by the quiet resilience of my father and the warmth of my late uncle, Bobby Dada. Growing up, I didn’t understand much of what they carried—grief, responsibility, unspoken strength—but as I got older, their words and actions started to make sense. My father’s journey, taking care of his family after his father’s passing.
Through this film, I want to honour that journey—not just his, but countless people who find meaning in the chaos, who keep going. This film is for them. For the ones who stay strong when it’s hardest. It’s about jugaad, family, and finding purpose in unlikely places. I hope it leaves viewers seen, heard, and a little more hopeful.
