Director Statement

“Ceramic Rabbit,” a 3D animated short film, was created with the hopes of giving a voice to those who might feel broken. Composed of a mostly Latinx crew and artists interested in Puerto Rican representation, the project follows the story of a ceramic rabbit couple battling with insecurities and learning to reconnect with each other through love. After hearing about the devastating earthquakes that impacted Puerto Rico in 2019, the creators decided to illustrate this story specifically through that perspective. They were inspired by Puerto Rican folk culture to create the character design, music, and painterly environment set in an Abuletia’s home in Old San Juan. The film illustrates how important it is to showcase misrepresented communities through animation. Through years of hard work, a group of 13 undergraduate students from the University of Central Florida set out to create an uplifting story that represents internal struggles through a Latinx perspective.
