Jenny M. Ng is a Chinese American writer-director raised in
Ohio and currently based in Portland, Oregon. Inspired by a degree in social theory from Harvard, she creates films that dissect the interpersonal workings of American culture and politics.
I was inspired to make a film about trauma-bonded teenagers who struggle to remain friends as they move on to the next stage of their lives. As much as they may wish to reconnect, Haley, Kyle, and Sean feel an absence and their past trauma erupts in the present. CASUALTIES is a coming-of-age epilogue of untold memories, good and bad. School shootings are a part of American life, and this film explores how the delayed emotional reverberations affect each person differently.
