Carter Cavanaugh is a filmmaker, artist, game developer, and production designer based in the NYC metro area. Their work ranges between film production and live theater, as well as personal art sales. Carter primarily works as a scenic painter, as well as a set decorator, carpenter, stagehand, and illustrator. Carter also loves to write, direct, and storyboard.
They graduated from Montclair State University with a BFA in Filmmaking in 2020, receiving "Best Director" and "Best Screenwriter" awards at their senior awards ceremony. Since then, Carter has gone on to win several more awards for their graduating short films “Apparition” and “Antique Failure. Most recently, they were awarded "Best Student Film" at the LGBTQ+ Los Angeles Film Festival in Los Angeles California, Dec 2022. Both films are currently in festival circuits, "Antique Failure" having just had its' premiere at Montclair Film Festival this past October, 2022.
As a non-binary creative, Carter’s mission statement is to create space for marginalized representation both on and off-screen. This is evident in their work, as well as with the creatives they work with. They are proud to be queer and visible in their professional community.
